where R(z,zd) is an atmospheric resistance to vertical transport that is derived from Briggs' formulas for σz (Gifford, 1976).  When the product vgR(z,zd) is of order 0.1 or less, the exponential function is approximated (for small argument) to simplify P(x,z):
